Because fuel cell technology – h-tron – presents a whole series of opportunities for sustainable mobility in the medium term, the Audi development engineers are also advancing this technology. The fuel cell is at its best when operated with sustainably-produced hydrogen. Audi is developing pioneering solutions with respect to both the technology and production of the fuel.
The Audi A7 Sportback h-tron represents the state of the art of Audi fuel cell technology. It can cover more than 500 kilometers (310.7 mi) on a single tank, with nothing more than a few drops of water leaving the tailpipe. The A7 Sportback h-tron quattro uses a powerful, sporty electric drive system with a fuel cell as the energy source combined with a hybrid battery and an additional electric motor at the rear of the car.
Its drive configuration makes the emission-free Audi A7 Sportback h-tron quattro a quattro through and through, with 170 kilowatts of power at its disposal – a new departure in fuel cell cars. There is no mechanical connection between the front and rear axles. As an e-quattro, the A7 Sportback h-tron quattro features fully electronic management of torque distribution.
