Still a serious gem. Maybe you weren't around the hobby when this came out back in 2003, or maybe you didn't care. But take notice. It's no Candy Striper '55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser, but it's a pretty darn pretty-in-pink RLC car. Plus, it's wayyy cheaper than the Gasser and the Spectraflame pink is equally as gorgeous.
Yeah, okay I can't put the Neo Classics Custom Corvette in the same class as the Candy Striper, but it's still a real beauty. I enjoyed cracking this one open. I've owned this one for over a decade and never had the nerve to open it. I finally got the guts to do it though, and I'm not disappointed. The Custom Corvette was an Original 16 redline-era casting from 1968. Mattel re-tooled the classic C3 Vette and used it twice. Once here, and again as an RLC Rewards car a couple of years later. We haven't seen it since.
The Custom Corvette was released when Hot Wheels Neo Classics were seriously high quality. The Neo-Classics of the last few years don't hold a candle to the quality present in pieces like this one. Recent releases don't keep pace with the chrome plated metal base, hand-polished (yes, literally) Spectraflame paint, opening hood, engine detail, tampo quality (no 'inkjet look') and working suspension of early RLC Neo Classics releases.
While Neo Classics intended to replicate the Redline cars of yore, the early releases of this series are legends in their own right. They're now out of favor with many collectors, but it's hard to deny the aesthetic appeal of a piece like this pink Custom Corvette! Enjoy!
