I've had a terribly tough time trying to choose the best Hot Wheels new model for 2016. I think I've settled on the Porsche 356A Outlaw, but every time I walk by the 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL Race Car, I have second thoughts. 2015 wasn't nearly such a struggle for me. In fact, it was quite easy.
But before I get into 2015 PLEASE VOTE for the Best 2016 New Model RIGHT HERE!!
As I said 2015 was an incredibly easy choice for me in terms of the best new Hot Wheels model. The Volkswagen Caddy is easily one of my top favorite Hot Wheels castings ever, so it was an easy choice for me. As soon as I saw the first sneak peek on our favorite Brazilian website, I knew. The VW Caddy was the one. The orange color it debuted in was perfectly fitting...it's a stock, factory Volkswagen color from that era.
The rest of the casting, however, was anything but stock. Felix Holst, of Matchbox fame, developed the v-dub scene-type Caddy, complete with huge fender flares, a skateboard in the bed, a roll cage and lowered stance. It looks like something out of the pages of Performance VW Magazine. The re-color in silver was nearly as brilliant. The Caddy was an easy choice. It's clean, with only front and back tampos and finally it's an MKI that's scaled properly. I love it.
My second choice is also easy. The '70 Ford Escort RS1600 is a classic in the UK and was made famous by the Fast and Furious movie franchise. The licensing on the first release definitely didn't hurt the model's popularity. The Escort is another stock/performance type car from Hot Wheels that looks modified but not wacky-blown-engine modified either. The clean blue with white racing stripes was perfect. This model needed to be made and it's excellent.
3rd place for me is also an easy choice. None of the other 2015 new models really screamed top 3 for me. A lot of people would choose this as their top new model for 2016. And that's fine with me. It's a clean, lowered, well cast model with nice detailing and the 'sleepy eye' headlights were a perfect touch. Yeah, you guessed it, I'm talking about the '96 Nissan 180SX Type X.
Enjoy the photos and the trip down last year's memory lane!
